"title": "來到五塊寮",
"desc": "五塊村地理上位於嘉南平原北方,行政區上則位於雲林縣元長鄉的最西邊。<br>在日治時期,五塊村被稱為「五塊寮」,最初隸屬於北港郡白沙墩堡,1920年行政區改革後,改隸為北港郡元長庄。蔡秋桐人生大多數時間都在這周遭度過。甚至在其小說〈帝君庄的秘史〉中,北港郡、元長庄也曾分別以<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2480\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">「媽祖郡」、「帝君庄」</a>之名登場。<br><br>",

"title": "土與水之歌",
"desc": "雖然五塊村地形大致平坦,但因為土壤屬鹽鹼地,加上嘉南平原降雨集中夏季,用水頗為受限,就自然環境而言,並不適合種植諸如水稻等需水較多的作物。<br>由於地形平坦,導致五塊村很容易發生水災,如1959年八七⽔災及1960年八⼀⽔災,讓許多鄉民在一夕之間失去了田地與家園。在八七水災時,因為蔡秋桐當時居住的洋樓地勢較高,因而成為許多鄉人避難的所在。",

"title": "旱地沃土",
"desc": "五塊村是個典型的農業村落。但就像前面說的,當地用水並不便利,加上缺乏大型水利設施,在嘉南大圳於1930年落成以前,五塊村是以<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2464\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">看天田</a>旱作為主。大圳落成後才開始種植水稻,不過因為位於水圳尾端,用水仍相對不便,因此雜糧還是扮演了重要角色。今日,五塊村採水稻和雜糧並作的耕種型態,並以耐瘠、耐旱的作物為主。其中,水稻產量最高,花生次之。其他作物,尚有甘蔗、蒜頭、花卉和聖女小番茄等。<br><br>雖然嘉南大圳改善了嘉南平原的用水窘境,但大圳對農民是不是百益而無一害呢?我們在蔡秋桐的作品中,可以發現故事似乎沒有美好。<br><br><br>",

"desc": "早期,血緣宗族關係將五塊村村人緊密聯繫在一起,五塊村村民中有約三分之二姓蔡。蔡氏族人又分為蒲陽衍派與與鰲江衍派二支,蔡秋桐即出身鰲江衍派,他們以開臺祖蔡惠遠公之名為族名,自稱「惠遠族」,至今鰲江衍派惠遠族仍在五塊村的政治與社會上占有重要位置。",

"title": "五年到,真熱鬧",
"desc": "五塊村最盛大的祭典就是農曆寅、午、戌年舉辦的<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2494\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">五年王爺祭典</a>。每到祭典年的農曆10月,五塊村村民便會到褒忠馬鳴山鎮安宮恭迎王爺,並到北港朝天宮迎接媽祖,接著由王爺和媽祖一起在五塊村逐戶繞境,祈求闔境平安。這項盛會,也曾出現在蔡秋桐的作品〈王爺豬〉中喔。",

"desc": "<div><span>1920年,為了改善嘉南平原的缺水情形,總督府開始以半官半民形式興建嘉南大圳,該大圳取用濁水溪、曾文溪水源,灌溉了嘉南平原境內十五萬甲的田野。大圳於1930年竣工後,確實讓嘉南平原水田面積大為成長,耕地收益也頗有增加。為了宣傳大圳的益處,台南州州廳還拍攝宣傳電影〈幸福的農民〉,藉著劇情對比,灌輸農民只要配合建設大圳及施行官方提倡的耕作方式,就能過上「幸福」生活的觀念。<br><br>然而,嘉南大圳遠非〈幸福的農民〉宣稱的裨益農民。在大圳興建期間,徵收土地造成沿線居民流離失所;大圳落成後,<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2486\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">高額</a></span><b><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2486\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">「</a></b><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2486\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">組合費</a><b><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2486\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">」</a></b>造成農民沉重負擔,<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2487\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">強制三年輪作</a>則讓農民喪失種植自主性。種種的弊病,讓大圳流域的農民未蒙其利,先受其害,嘉南(Ka-lâm)大圳儼然變成了「<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://vocus.cc/article/5e5a360efd89780001594013\">咬人(kā-lâng)大圳</a>」。五塊寮恰恰位於大圳的灌溉範圍內,蔡秋桐因而對農民的悲慘境遇知之甚明,並用批判與諷刺之筆加以記錄。</div>",

"desc": "<span>1930年代以前,「農業臺灣,工業日本」是臺灣總督府主要的經濟政策,新推動的農業改革政策使得蔗農不能越區販賣作物,只能將甘蔗賣給指定的糖廠,且任由糖廠指定收購價格。農民受糖廠殖民政府壓榨導致抗爭的事件層出不窮,其中最為著名者,當為1925年林本源製糖株式會社惡意低價收購甘蔗,引起蔗農抗爭的「<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://storystudio.tw/article/gushi/erhlin-peasants-movements-01/\">二林事件</a>」。</span><br>政府對待農民的方式不公,使得農民難以在殖民政府的統治下安穩的過生活,而蔡秋桐透過寫實的手法,替農民訴說了滿腔的不滿與無奈。",

"desc": "蔡秋桐於1921年自元長公學校畢業,時年22歲。當時由於村子裡的讀書人不多,因此蔡秋桐畢業後即當選臺南州北港郡元長庄第六保(即五塊寮)保正,隔年(1922年),又接掌接掌惠遠族第四房公業。由於蔡秋桐開始擔任保正時相當年輕,故元長當地流傳著「五塊寮保正<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">囝仔條</a>」這句俗諺。蔡秋桐之後又陸續擔任許多地方要職,如大日本製糖株式會社地方委員、嘉南大圳組合評議會員、五塊寮畜產組合長、元長信用組合監事,以及元長庄協議會員等。其職務囊括地方水利、經濟、政治等面相,讓他的得以在第一線觀察地方政治與民間反應。",

"desc": "蔡秋桐於就讀公學校時,就曾以在《子供世界》雜誌上發表日文作品,畢業後亦持續創作,但改以台灣話文寫作。1930年,他在《新高新報》發表小說〈帝君庄的祕史〉,此後又在《新高新報》、《台灣新民報》、《台灣文藝》和《台灣新文學》 等報刊上發表作品,目前尚存有〈連座〉、〈保正伯〉、〈放屎百姓〉等<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/2205\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">十篇小說</a>。其中的〈保正伯〉亦可視為他對自己身兼雙重身分的思考。<br>蔡秋桐曾經加入<b>臺灣文化協會</b>,1931年時亦與北港地區文學同好共同創辦《曉鐘》雜誌,雜誌中相當強調啟蒙思想與文藝現代性的重要。後擔任「<b>台灣文藝聯盟</b>」的南部委員。1937年臺灣總督府廢止報紙雜誌中文欄後,蔡秋桐即停止新文學創作,轉入舊詩寫作,加入漢詩詩會「褒忠吟社」。",

"desc": "首先要介紹的,是被譽為台灣新文學之父的作家──賴和。<br>賴和(1894-1943),本名賴河,出生於彰化。他自幼學習漢文,自醫學校畢業後,一面學習西方醫學、開設西醫診所,一面又終生著臺灣服、創作漢詩抒發人生感慨。賴和擅長以寫實主義的手法,人道主義的精神,關照蔗農、商人與婦女所遭遇的痛苦。同時,也在小說中深刻批判警察、製糖會社與資產階級帶來的壓迫。賴和的文學與思想,深深影響台灣文學的發展,就連蔡秋桐傾向中文化的用字與寫作風格,可能也有受到賴和的影響。<br>其實,賴和與蔡秋桐是互相熟識的喔!蔡秋桐所成立的《曉鐘》雜誌創刊號中,即收錄了賴和所撰寫的祝賀新詩<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https://rural.openmuseum.tw/embed/remark/1603\" class=\"lightbox-link js-mfp-iframe\">〈祝曉鐘的發刊〉</a>。",

"desc": "接著,來說說是蔡秋桐曾於其中擔任南部委員的「台灣文藝聯盟」。<br> 台灣文藝聯盟(簡稱文聯)是由賴明弘、張深切和楊守愚等人於1934年發起,集結全台八十餘位作家齊聚組成。文聯先後在嘉義、佳里、埔里、東京設立支部,並發行《台灣文藝》雜誌。左邊的相片即是該會1935年舉辦台灣文藝大會的紀念照,第一排左側第二位即為蔡秋桐。<br>藉由結盟,期待可以促進文化運動的發展,振興台灣文藝。《台灣文藝》的發行,也讓許多台灣作家有發表的園地。然而,聯盟成立後逐漸出現兩條路線,一為楊逵主導的社會主義路線,另一則是張深切主導的純文學路線。在外有總督府壓迫,內有路線之爭的情況下,《台灣文藝》於1936年8月28日停刊。不久後,台灣文藝聯盟也停止活動。",

"desc": "<span>1926年,蔗糖會社開始進行大規模的土地兼併和收購。在小說中,土哥的田地被官廳強迫用低價賣給蔗糖會社,僅剩的地全部拿來種植甘蔗,卻仍不夠維持生計。為什麼土哥要種植價賤的甘蔗,不去種其他更有經濟利益的作物呢?當時,蔗糖會社為了鼓勵農民種植甘蔗,會社提供貸款和獎勵資金給蔗農來應付繁重的租稅,但是甘蔗收購價低,每每還完貸款、繳完租稅,農民所剩無幾,必須繼續下一輪的貸款,甚至是成為蔗糖會社農場的雇傭工才得以維持生計。<br><br>除了土哥,發哥的土地因為開鑿嘉南大圳,也面臨被剝奪的命運。嘉南大圳是因應殖民母國日本農業生產不足而促成,它由總督府負責主導,通過「公共埤圳嘉南大圳事業組合」來統籌相關事業。由於大圳的開發將大大影響農民的耕作方式,當時政府甚至錄製了宣傳影片</span>〈幸福の農民〉<span>來向農民推廣嘉南大圳。雖然嘉南大圳確實讓南部平原從原本的「看天田」轉成一年兩穫的豐饒之地,不過這一切對於發哥來說,可能沒有那麼的「幸福」,因為嘉南大圳K組合要強制收購他的田,以讓嘉南大圳可以在上面設置水路。<br><br>蔡秋桐所描繪的發哥和土哥,呈現出當時村中典型的艱苦農民。「農也做,商也做,工也做,怎樣逐日得不到三頓飽?」發哥的納悶,可說是當時農民共同的感慨,反映出蔡秋桐對於嘉南大圳與K組合的批判精神。<br><br> 這樣的看法難以被當局所容,</span>〈放屎百姓〉<span>上半部於1931年4月25日刊登於《台灣新民報》,同年5月2號刊登的下半部卻遭到檢查,在報紙上留下一大片空白。<br><br><i>全文來源:<br><div>楊雲萍、張我軍、蔡秋桐著,《楊雲萍 張我軍 蔡秋桐合集》。台北:前衛,1991。<br></div></i></span>",
