"濁水溪的懸浮物質，透過農田引水灌溉後，在進水處常堆積著厚厚的一層灰黑泥土，二水鄉的民眾稱之為「土膏（台語）」，在溪州鄉則稱此為「濁水膏土（台語）」或「黑金土」，儘管各地的名稱有所差異，但其實都是指濁水溪水所帶來的濁黑泥土，亦即濁水溪沿岸農田特有的「黑泥」，越靠近水圳源頭的農田，則有越豐厚的黑泥堆積。濁水膏土的黑泥富含鈣、磷、鎂，不但有利於農作物生長，每年也為農田帶來新的土壤，在還沒有化學肥料的年代，濁水溪灌溉區的農地有較多的「天然肥料」，因此用濁水溪水灌溉種植的稻米，即是聞名全台的「濁水米」。位在彰化縣二水鄉、溪州鄉與雲林縣林內鄉的農民，早期開墾河床上的溪埔地，往往都是先選定地點後，在四周圍起石頭為界，然後將範圍內的砂礫整平，接著引入濁水入內。當水乾涸後，地上就會留下一層砂質土，如此反覆堆積幾次後，黑泥土越積越厚，最後就能成為一塊可耕種的土地。現今，也有些農民利用田地積累出一定厚度的黑泥膏土，再以挖土機將土壤挖開翻鬆曝曬，等待黑泥土中的水分曬乾後，再將肥沃的黑泥土進行販售。濁水溪的黑泥膏土除了土質的肥沃度高，其沖積物堆積生成的土壤質地較粘，對樹根的包覆黏著力佳，有利於移植、搬運。因此彰化縣永靖、田尾一帶苗木業的興起，就與濁水膏土有密切關聯。", "濁水溪為台灣最長的河流，主流發源於合歡山主峰與東峰間的佐久間鞍部。明治三十一年(1898)發生戊戌水災，因濁水溪支流清水溪上游草嶺潭潰決，流路北移，使得洪水從原河道（今西螺溪）流入舊濁水溪故道（二水→鹿港、福興流路，今東螺溪），使得舊濁水溪成為濁水溪下游的主流。水災造成當時濁水溪兩岸損失慘重，洪水由現今濁水溪至彰化縣二水鼻仔頭，往西北方向流經當時的北斗街、埤頭庄，進入二林庄，往西進入沙山庄（今芳苑鄉），在偏向西北方向由福興的麥嶼厝出海。\n\n東螺溪全長33公里，橫跨彰化縣境內9個鄉鎮，主流域從溪州鄉經北斗鎮沿田尾鄉、溪湖鎮、埔鹽鄉、埤頭鄉、二林鎮等鄉鎮邊界流入福興鄉，最後與員林大排會合，於現今福興鄉與芳苑鄉的界溪「漢寶溪」出海，同時也是舊濁水溪的河道流域。東螺溪早期被周邊的民眾排放農業及畜牧業廢水，加上佈滿各種被丟棄的垃圾，逐漸成為惡臭難聞的象徵，也讓附近的居民難以親近。\n\n湖埔社大（涵括溪湖、埔心、埔鹽三個鄉鎮地區）近幾年致力於舊濁水溪河道的東螺溪生態環境復育，在林淑玲執行長、謝文猷老師及社大同仁與河東里居民組織的河川巡守隊等眾人共同努力下，開設相關自然生態的課程，逐步帶領眾人動手清理東螺溪的周邊環境，讓居民從原本難以親近且長期散發惡臭的舊濁水溪河道，用豐富的自然生態之美重新走入民眾的心中。此外，湖埔社大也致力打造周邊的自然環境，除了設有蝴蝶廊道、生態教育園區，同時也於2017年開始舉辦「戀戀東螺溪欒樹節」，讓社大同學及在地或外來的民眾能夠過實際參與活動，真正地了解東螺溪沿岸豐富的生態之美。", "濁水溪的懸浮物質，透過農田引水灌溉後，在進水處常堆積著厚厚的一層灰黑泥土，二水鄉的民眾稱之為「土膏（台語）」，在溪州鄉則稱此為「濁水膏土（台語）」或「黑金土」，儘管各地的名稱有所差異，但其實都是指濁水溪水所帶來的濁黑泥土，亦即濁水溪沿岸農田特有的「黑泥」，越靠近水圳源頭的農田，則有越豐厚的黑泥堆積。濁水膏土的黑泥富含鈣、磷、鎂，不但有利於農作物生長，每年也為農田帶來新的土壤，在還沒有化學肥料的年代，濁水溪灌溉區的農地有較多的「天然肥料」，因此用濁水溪水灌溉種植的稻米，即是聞名全台的「濁水米」。位在彰化縣二水鄉、溪州鄉與雲林縣林內鄉的農民，早期開墾河床上的溪埔地，往往都是先選定地點後，在四周圍起石頭為界，然後將範圍內的砂礫整平，接著引入濁水入內。當水乾涸後，地上就會留下一層砂質土，如此反覆堆積幾次後，黑泥土越積越厚，最後就能成為一塊可耕種的土地。現今，也有些農民利用田地積累出一定厚度的黑泥膏土，再以挖土機將土壤挖開翻鬆曝曬，等待黑泥土中的水分曬乾後，再將肥沃的黑泥土進行販售。濁水溪的黑泥膏土除了土質的肥沃度高，其沖積物堆積生成的土壤質地較粘，對樹根的包覆黏著力佳，有利於移植、搬運。因此彰化縣永靖、田尾一帶苗木業的興起，就與濁水膏土有密切關聯。",
